#BookReview Dare to Take by Carly Phillips #ContemporaryRomance

She was off limits,
But he couldn't resist.

There are just some guys you don't touch--even someone as innocent and inexperienced as Ella Shaw knows that. But when her brother's best friend is up for grabs and willing, she can't resist. After all, she's wanted him for years...

On leave from the army, Tyler Dare is just looking for a little fun, but his best friend's sister is off limits. Yet unable to deny how sexy and alluring she is, he finds it all too easy to succumb to a night of passion and heat that ends the next morning in the worst way possible.

Now, Ella is stranded on a tropical island with a hurricane bearing down, and only Tyler can save her. It's his chance to make amends for the past and show the woman he's never forgotten that he's coming after her . . . in more ways than one.

As a novel in a series with many stories preceding it, Dare to Take reads as a true stand alone with some enticing bits to make me want to pick up one or two of the previous novels.

I have to first say that when he was younger, Tyler was a selfish bastard when it came to dealing with Ella. Even as an adult I initially found him to be cold in regard to her. And then the tables turned when he came to her rescue. The exceptional part about Tyler was that he knew how much of a jerk he could be and was willing and able to work on it. Growth is always a good thing in a hero.

Unlike Tyler, Ella hasn’t lived a life of wealth. Her childhood was difficult and it didn’t help that Tyler added to her heartache when she needed his acceptance. I keep shaking my head at the drama Ella had to go through both in the past and as an adult.

Years of repressed feelings between the couple made the romance between Ella and Tyler explosive. The novel was wrought with passion and misunderstandings that drove the story forward. Ms. Phillips did a wonderful job of converging the past with the present without bogging the reader down.
